Street, Intersection Closures Along Common Street As Paving Takes Place Friday

The reconstruction of streets and intersections along Common Street enters the paving phase on Friday, Aug. 26, weather permitting.

According to a press release from the Belmont Department of Public Works, beginning at 6 a.m., Mass DOT’s general contractor J. Tropeano will begin paving of the sections of the following roads:

  • School Street between Common and Cottage streets
  • Common Street at the intersection with School and Waverley streets
  • Waverley Street at the intersection with Common Street

Road closures and delays are expected during construction hours between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents and commuters are advised to seek alternate routes.

“Vehicular access to properties in this section of the road will be limited during work hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience,” read the release.

Several Months Of ‘Heavy Construction’ At School And Common Begins Monday, April 4

Commuters and parents who drop off/pick up their children at the Roger Wellington Elementary School: Be warned! Construction work will begin at the intersection of Common and School streets on Monday, April 4, according to an announcement from the Town of Belmont.

The work is part of the Mass Department of Transportation Improvement Project at the Wellington. Residents can expect “heavy construction activity for several months” during the construction hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said the town.

Common Street Repaving Now Set To Begin Thursday, Aug. 15

The long-awaited repaving of Common Street is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Aug. 15.

EH Perkins Construction of Burlington will be laying asphalt on one of the town’s main thoroughfares between Payson Road and School Street. The work along the 8/10 of a mile route is expected to be completed within three workdays on Monday, Aug. 19.

During the three days, sections of Common Street will be closed to traffic between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents and commuters are advised to seek alternate routes. No on street parking or access to driveways will be available during construction hours. Common Street residents affected by the construction will be able to park overnight on side streets.
