The Belmontian Community Service Club at Belmont High School is getting a big assist in its annual appeal to help fight breast cancer from the newest real estate office in the Center.

“Because we are fortunate that RE/MAX Leading Edge (formerly Hammond Residential Real Estate) is sponsoring the entire cost of the t-shirts, every penny will go to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer efforts through the Belmont High School Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team,” said Alice Melnikoff, community service coordinator at Belmont High School.

The shirts are being sold for $10 each at Belmont High School and at RE/MAX Leading Edge, located in Belmont Center at 84 Leonard St.

Breast Cancer Car Wash Fundraiser This Saturday, Oct. 18

After today’s rainstorm and all the muddy puddles your car will be splashing through, the next step will be finding a place to wash your car. In Belmont, that would be Belmont Car Wash in lovely Waverley Square.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, you can clean your vehicle while supporting Belmont High School’s service club’s fight against breast cancer.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Belmontian Club will partner with Belmont Car Wash in its annual fundraiser for Belmont High School’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” team. The club, whose members will be out there drying vehicles, will receive all tips for the day and $1 per car for Belmont Car Wash.

The money raised goes to the American Cancer Society’s efforts for breast cancer research, prevention, education and patient outreach and support

So far this year, the team has raised approximately $6,500 for breast cancer research.

Belmont High Students Making Strides This Sunday

It’s October, and the Belmontian Community Service Club at Belmont High School has been planning for Breast Cancer Month.

As a first step, many members are walking in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer this Sunday, Oct. 5, where representatives from the club will be on the stage at the Hatch Shell in recognition of our third-place finish in last year’s High School Challenge

If you would like to support the team – and the American Cancer Society’s efforts in breast cancer research, education, treatment, and patient support – the team would be delighted to accept those donations by going online to the team’s website:

http://main.acsevents.org/goto/belmonths

and clicking on “Donate Now” or by sending a check, made out to “American Cancer Society,” to Alice Melnikoff, Belmont High School, 221 Concord Ave., Belmont, MA 02478.

The team will be collecting donations from now until the end of November. In 2013, the team raised $15,000 from all its breast cancer fundraising activities and it is hoping to exceed that figure this year.

Hard Winter on Your Car? Get It Washed and Help Kids in Need

Take the winter salt and grim off your car this Saturday, April 12 at the Belmont Car Wash in Waverley Square and  at the same time help children in need.

Members of the Belmontian Community Service Club of Belmont High School will be at Belmont Car Wash drying off your cars and all tips for their work will go to benefit Cradles to Crayons, the Boston-based non-profit that provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive at home, at school and at play.

The day of service, sponsored by Belmont Car Wash, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
