Gallery Of Art Hosts Talk On Why Climate Change Is True On Sunday, Sept. 29 @ 2PM

Join the Belmont Gallery of Art’s a special hour-long family friendly event with Science Communicator David L. Marino: “Climate Change: How We Know It’s True.”

The talk will take place at the Gallery on the third floor of the Homer Building (located off Moore Street in the Town Hall complex in Belmont Center on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.

Marino’s presentation will address the difference between weather and climate, how we know what we know, and possible solutions to the warming trend.

A principal of DLM Communications, Marino has written and produced presentations most recently for the Museum of Science, Harvard, MIT and the Union of Concerned Scientists among others.

The talk coincides with the gallery show: “Impact Climate Change: Contemporary tapestry from Tapestry Weavers West and Tapestry Weavers in New England.” The show continues until Oct. 13 than opening in San Francisco’s Mills Building on Dec. 16.

Students through adults are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. And it’s free.

Art Gallery Seeking … Art For Fall Show

The Belmont Gallery of Art, located on the third floor of the Homer Building, is reaching out to local artists with a: Call for Art! Fall 2019.

The Gallery of Art’s fall exhibit, “ELEMENTAL”, will explore how the foundational elements of making art work together to create compelling visual images and narratives.

The exhibit will focus on the elements of shape, line, form, color, space and texture. The gallery is looking for both 2 and 3 dimensional representational and abstract art submissions.

Exhibit Opens Oct. 26 through Dec. 27.
Submissions Deadline Oct. 3

Opening Reception For Jones’ Solo Show Thursday At Belmont Library

Nope, Mussorgsky isn’t on the bill this Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Belmont Public Library.

The Belmont Gallery of Art at the Belmont Library is holding an opening reception for artist Susan Jones’ Solo Show: Pictures at an Exhibition.

The reception will take place between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the library’s Assembly Room. Jones will discuss her art: paintings, window pieces and woven multimedia pieces. There will be a vintage stereoscope demonstration and an art project to do yourself. 

There will be light snacks and art-making. The exhibit continues through the summer.

Opening Reception Friday For Belmont Gallery Of Art’s Annual Holiday Small Works Show

The Belmont Gallery of Art’s 11th annual Small Works Holiday Show and Sale will open its doors with a Festive Holiday Reception on Friday, Dec. 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring spirits from Belmont’s Craft Beer Cellar and live music performed by John Fitzsimmons of Concord’s Colonial Inn. Events are free and open to the public.

The show and sale, which runs from Dec. 7 to Dec. 16, will feature special guest exhibitors Indigo Fire Pottery Studio on the weekend of Dec. 7 to Dec. 9. The sale offers original art by 30 local artists in a variety of media including affordably priced original paintings, ceramics, prints, photographs, collage, textiles, and wearable art – as well as jewelry and cards — with gift purchasing in mind.

The gallery will be open special extended shopping hours on Thursday and Friday nights through Dec. 15 and open on Saturday and Sundays through Dec. 16:

  • Mon./Thurs./Fri. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sat., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
  • Sun. Noon to 5 p.m.

And just a reminder: Shoppers will need to bring cash or checks, since the gallery is unable to accept credit cards.

At this special time of year, many of us focus on finding the perfect gift for family, friends and loved ones. It can often be a challenge to discover something unique and not mass-produced. In response, a number of shoppers seek out holiday fairs, small shops and other places where gifts may be more unusual than those typically found in the malls and large box stores.

For residents of Belmont and neighboring towns, the search for special handmade gifts, including original pieces of art and other treasures, can be found right off Leonard Street in the Homer Building at the Gallery’s Small Works Holiday Show and Sale, offering original art by 30 local artists in a variety of media including affordably priced original paintings, ceramics, prints, photographs, collage, textiles, and wearable art – as well as jewelry and cards — all made by area artists with gift purchasing in mind.

Small Works Special Guests Exhibitor – Indigo Fire Pottery Studio

This year’s Special guest artists from Belmont’s Indigo Fire Pottery Studio. Located at 60 Concord Ave. is a full service pottery studio offering classes for beginners to professionals in a friendly, welcoming environment. Indigo Fire owner and artist Ned Levering was interested in partnering with the BGA on the exhibit to not only showcase work made by its fourteen featured artists, but to also make the community more aware of the clay art being made in Belmont.

Indigo Fire’s artists will be selling a wide range of stylistically, unique pottery at its special Holiday exhibit and sale at the Belmont Gallery of Art. “Buyers of all tastes and preference will be able to find a piece of pottery that’s just right for them,” says Levering.

The Belmont Gallery of Art is located in the Homer Municipal Building, third floor, which is part of the Town Hall Complex, just off Leonard Street at 19 Moore St., Belmont Center — behind Belmont Savings Bank — and across from the Commuter Rail stop. Wheelchair accessible.

Artists Will Explore Their Abstract Art On Saturday at the Belmont Gallery

The artists talk at the Belmont Gallery of Art for the show “Explorations of Abstract Art” will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the gallery located on the third floor of the Homer Building located in the Town Hall complex.

Artists Kirsten Reynolds, Jeanne Arthur, Nedret Andre and Susie White will talk about their work at the Belmont Gallery of Art with guest speaker A. Melissa Venator, the Stefan Engelhorn Curatorial Fellow in the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard, who will open with a brief talk about the foundations of abstract art in the early 20th century.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Opening Reception For Belmont Gallery of Art’s The Emotion Of Color Friday, Oct. 19

THE EMOTION OF COLOR; ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM IN THE 21ST CENTURY opens Friday, Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a reception for the public at the Belmont Gallery of Art, third floor of the Homer Building, 19 Moore St. in the Town Hall complex.

The show runs from Oct. 19 to Nov. 30.

This latest Belmont Gallery of Art show features contemporary abstract art by four well-known artists; Susie White, Jeanne Arthur, Kirsten Reynolds and Nedret Andre. The show centers around the theme of emotional connection to color and venue in contemporary art. These four abstract artists together in one gallery will be a visual delight, with powerful images filled with color and light viscerally connecting us to our collective emotions. They are linked through their shared inspiration from the natural world, their innovation, their boldness, their immense talents and the emotional core of their work.

Rock The Canvas: Del Fuegos Alum Presents Musical Artist Talk Thursday at 7 PM

Rocker and artist Woody Giessman will give an artist’s perspective with words and music during his Gallery Talk associated with “Rhythm & Hues,” the current show at the Belmont Gallary of Art.

Guests can expect a lively evening of stories and music performance with the BGA’s special featured artist. Giessman, former drummer for the Boston-based 80’s rock band, the Del Fuegos, founder of Right Turn recovery and survivor of a near-fatal brain aneurysm, will discuss his unusual life, art-inspirations and influences and the importance of art and music in all our lives.

The talk will take place at the gallery on the third floor of the Homer Building, on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Extended Opening For Belmont Gallery’s ‘Rhythm and Hues’

The Belmont Gallery of Art’s latest exhibition, “Rhythm and Hues: Art Inspired by Music” opens today, Friday, Sept. 7 with special extended hours, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Nearly 42 artists are taking part in this show that celebrates art inspired by music. 
The opening reception takes places on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring a talk and singing by artist Woody Giessman, the original drummer of the 80’s Boston pop group, the Del Fuegos. Wine and light refreshments will be served.
A special gallery pop-up show featuring African crafts will show on Sunday, Sept. 10.
The Belmont Gallery of Art is located in the Homer Building, 19 Moore St., in the Town Hall complex. Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 3 p.m.

Opening Reception For Belmont Gallery Of Arts Summer Show June 21

Celebrate the Summer Solstice at the opening reception for “Take 5 Plus 2” this year’s summer art show at the Belmont Gallery of Art. The reception will be held Thursday night, June 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the gallery located on the third floor of the Homer Building located in the Town Hall complex off Moore Street in Belmont Center.

The exhibit features works by five members of the BGA’s board of directors:  Chris Arthur, Kimberly Becker, Helen Canetta, Richard Hill and Adine Storer, together with two guest artists; Trey Klein and Carol Wintle.

The show will run until Aug. 15. Summer gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Fridays in August from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Talk, Reception On Making Art With Paper At The Belmont Art Gallery, Sunday At Noon

The Belmont Gallery of Art is sponsoring a talk and reception “The Art of Paper,” on Sunday, April 22, from noon to 2 p.m. at the gallery which is located on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex.
The Art of Paper Gallery talk will feature four artists from the “Fairytales and Folktales” exhibit who created their art using paper in unique and unusual ways. Come learn more about how they make their work.
 
Panelists at this special talk include Laurie Bogdan, Helen Canetta, Suzette Durso, Barbara Fletcher and Carol Wintle. Light brunch refreshments will be served.
